Dentistry Professor Wins National Teaching Award

Dr. Rosamund Harrison, professor and chair of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, has won the 2010 3M ESPE – ACFD National Dental Teaching Award for her outstanding work in dental education both locally and nationally. More

Outstanding Professors Recognized at both campuses

23 professors at UBC’s Vancouver Campus were recognized this year with a UBC Killam Teaching Prize. The award recognizes excellence in teaching, with nominees suggested by students, alumni, and colleagues. On the Okanagan Campus three teachers were honoured with 2011 Teaching Excellence and Innovation Awards. Joyce Boon, associate professor of biology in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences, and Carolyn Labun, senior instructor in the School of Engineering, are co-recipients of the award for senior faculty. The award for junior faculty went to Christopher Schneider, assistant professor of sociology, also in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences. More

Okanagan’s Chief Librarian Received the Miles Blackwell Award

Melody Burton received the Canadian Library Association’s highest honour — the Miles Blackwell Outstanding Academic Librarian Award. The award recognizes Burton for tireless service to the profession, unwavering commitment to mentorship, and excellent leadership. She has served as the Okanagan campus’ Chief Librarian since 2005. Dr. Ravi Sidhu, assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine, received the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada 2011 Young Educators’ Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to medical education in the early years of their academic career. More

UBC Professor Recognized for Excellence in Undergraduate Physics Teaching

Dr. Marina Milner-Bolotin, assistant professor in the Faculty of Education, won the 2010 Canadian Association of Physicists Medal for Excellence in Undergraduate Physics Teaching. Dr. Milner-Bolotin was recognized for her enthusiasm in engaging students to discover physics with a masterful integration of an array of successful teaching methods. More

UBC Professor Receives 2011 Excellence in Fisheries Education Award

Dr. Scott Hinch, associate professor in the Faculty of Forestry, received the 2011 Excellence in Fisheries Education Award by the American Fisheries Society. The award recognizes dedication to the education of fisheries professionals. More
